These come in many different shapes and forms, but with the release of Nuclear Throne, there’s a new sheriff in town. The Switch certainly has no lack of roguelikes or twin-stick shooters, with some genuinely great offerings on the platform. Quite possibly the best twin-stick roguelike on the Switch. That the shotgun shells bounce more, that killing enemies I have X probability of healing 1hp, receiving more ammunition … once we reach level 10, we will be able to access an Ultra Mutation of two that each character has.

If we reach the end of the level, always procedurally created as is dogma in the genre, and we have enough tolevel up, we can unlock one of the 4 mutations that give us to choose. You’ll spend your time in each level running around searching for better weapons, extra ammo, rads (more of that in a moment) and killing anything in sight. Nuclear Throne is essentially a twin-stick shooter played from a top-down perspective all wrapped in a roguelike skin.

After a very brief tutorial – one that covers the absolute basics of movement and shooting – you’re out into the wastelands shooting and swinging your way through a series of randomly generated levels each filled with enemies aplenty.
